The nervous system has two states it can be in: sympathetic or parasympathetic. The sympathetic side is responsible for handling stressful situations by fighting, flighting or freezing. The parasympathetic side is responsible for resting, digestion, healing and development. Remember what I said occurs during sleep? Rest, digestion, healing and development! So, what side do you think your nervous system and body need to be in in order to fall asleep and stay asleep? The parasympathetic side!

So when your child is struggling to calm down and fall asleep or waking up every night in the middle of the night, it’s safe to assume that their brain is operating in the sympathetic state and that is not ideal. That’s why chiropractic has such a profound effect on sleep because the adjustment helps the brain shift out of the sympathetic state and into the parasympathetic state.

Usually, improved sleep is one of the first things that people notice after getting adjusted and that is great because that tells us that your body is starting to heal from the inside-out and that is the primary goal!
