The Best Present for this Holiday Season…

As we are in full holiday mode, I know that it is easy to feel stressed about what to get your loved ones and when you’ll even have the time to go shopping for them. You are not alone in feeling that stress as I am guilty of that myself.

Therefore, I wanted to remind us all that truly the best present you can give your loved ones is presence itself.

I know it may sound cheesy but it really is the truth. Making memories with your kids is what they will grow up and remember, not necessarily all the awesome gifts you purchased for them this year. Being truly present with your friends and family means really giving your time and love to them and not running through all the things on your to-do list that still needs to be done! We live in a fast paced society of go, go, go but the holidays can really be a time for you to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet with your family and cherish all the moments you have together. Sometimes we try so hard to make everything perfect and to make this the best Christmas ever that we forget to actually have fun and enjoy the fun activities we’ve planned!

If you find yourself getting frazzled, here are a few tips to being yourself to the present moment:

1. Focus on your breath. Inhale for 4 counts and exhale for 4 counts. Repeat a few times until you feel yourself calming down.

2. Make sure your getting adequate sleep! I know the holidays bring on extra parties and fun activities that may alter your bedtime routine but you will feel so much better the next day if you get a good amount of shut eye!

3. Write out what you’re are grateful for. A very easy way to stay present is to stay grateful for the moment you are currently experiencing. We all have many, many people and things we can be grateful for!

4. Stay adjusted and healthy. Keeping up with your adjustment routine will allow your nervous system to stay calm and centered versus stressed out and chaotic. If you’re in town, give us a call! We’d love to see you and help you have the best holiday season possible!

We want to wish you the happiest of holidays to all of our practice members and your families! May this time of year be full of joy and presence!
